  • By request; I have created a mod that makes all of the historical scenarios available. The purpose of this mod was to make the historical scenarios easily available for players who can get intimidated by renaming and editing files. It contains all 20 historical scenarios with carryover disabled so that all are available to play from the start.

Just unzip the contents to your Mods directory and enjoy.

  • Hi,

I downloaded and activated this mod this out of curiosity as I have long ago renamed and adjusted all of the stock scenarios.

I don't quite see how this mod should work though. The stock scenarios still remain restricted re carry-over and I don't see any new user scenarios. There is no clash of scenario names.

  • Hi Ingles of the 57th,

Once you go into 'Modifications' at the main screen, select the Historical Scenarios Mod.Then Select 'Single Player' and 'User Scenarios'. Once there, you can select any of the Battles and play. I just played # 11 - "We want your guns". Without this Mod in order to play # 11, you must finish # 7 - On to the Round Tops.
    Give it a try

Chamberlain is correct. Once enabled they should be in your User Scenarios. Look for the unique names GB01-MOD-July1-The Boys Got Their Dander Up (U-Cav Div)

  • Thanks folks,

No ....The mod is shown and properly activated as far as I can see but there seems no addition to my user scenarios.

I will try the whole download again. Something might have got corrupted between USA and darkest Africa. As I said it is really academic, actually, as I set up my own versions the day after the SDK files were released and I have many variants modded out of recognition.

I have Heth in 02 for example moving forward from McPhersons ridge via a series of rolling objectives to the centre of Gettysburg to collect from the boot factory the boots he originally came for. Not many men left to wear them though when he gets there. The Iron Brigade retain a great ability to reform and continue to harry further down the road.

  • Hi,

All worked fine after a re-download.

These scenarios will of course be useful to me as they are from the post-patch SDK whereas mine were still lingering in the past.

Great to hear. Bad downloads can do some crazy things. The other day, my game would crash on every other load of a scenario, due to a bad patch download.

Also good to hear you've started some modding. That Heth variation sounds cool!

Thank you ten times over for this mod. Maybe the developer will learn that it should have been an available option from the get go and include it in any future releases. The free scenario choice has made a great game even better.

    You're very welcome. :)

I like that it's an option though.. If you want the challenge of having to unlock the scenario's while factoring in carryover, then you play the stock scenario's. But if you'd rather jump right to all of the scenario's, you can always grab the mod. And I'm sure it'll be the same case in future releases. :)

  • I like the vanilla game's winning restriction and carryover into the next battle. It reminds me of the enjoyable various battle path options featured in the old SMG.

If I capture artillery in a battle to be carried forward, is the captured artillery reflected in any manner in the subsequent battle; i.e. do you get to keep the guns?

Nope. The only thing you get to keep is the memory of the thrill of capture. :P

I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

  • Okie Dokie - guess I can live with that.

In the subsequent battle in TC2M, my boys rejoined the same regiment that had captured the arty in the previous battle; or, it might have been just some of the boys. I'm not quite sure, which is probably because of the drunk we'd put on celebrating the return of our heroes. I would assume this has remained the same with SOWGB.

  • I'd like to play the Antietam scenarios in Sandbox (as I understand it, I could then be a fairly lowly commander in a big part of the battle).

Is this do-able (I could face some file wrangling, if necessary)?

Or is a mod to do this likely? :)

    Thanks in advance,

    Jeff

  • If you were playing scenarios in Sandbox, then it wouldn't be a scenario. Sandbox randomizes the troop positions etc. What you're talking about is a custom scenario. Creating a custom scenario for Antietam wouldn't be possible unless we released an SDK for it. Well it actually is possible by dumping a scenario.csv, then creating the other appropriate files etc. If you really want to go this route, it will get pretty complicated and there's a learning curve. But I'll be willing to help if you decide to dive into this.

  • Thanks Little Powell, and sorry for the confused question.

To re-jig my question, does the Historical Scenarios Mod allow me to do what I was trying to describe, but for Gettysburg? ie, take part in a large part of the battle (army vs army, or corps vs corps), set up in their historical starting points, and just be in command of a brigade or division? Or is this impossible?

Re creating Antietam custom scenarios, I don't think I'm anywhere near prepared to do modding - I'll stick to trying to get beaten less comprehensively when fighting scenarios. Thanks very much for the offer of help though.

    Thanks again,

    Jeff

  • Thanks ADukes.

I have just fought as Gibbon for the first hour or so of Antietam. We did worse than the real thing - my last regiment was routed as Rebel forces were close to totally destroying Doubleday's division. Reb cavalry were massing tp deliver the coup de grace...

I didn't know it was possible to do this and it was stunning. If fellow grunts haven't tried this I highly recommend it.

Thanks again to all - magnificent!

  • Jube,

Interesting. Fought as Bill Smith, (2nd. Div, IV Corps, USA), this morning for 60 minutes, no problem. Good fight, too. Everything worked fine.

  • It does need to be updated because it doesn't include the minor changes we did for the 1.2 patch, but should at least work. Perhaps it's not installed correctly.
