  • Major Toolbar Upgrade - Details on Website and ‘Modifications’ Info screen in game.

Thanks to Wolfe_CH (Chris) for some included buttons, and some great ideas for toolbar convenience.

A Rebel salute to our Yankee brother Phantom Captain for his post on TC2M regarding a link to a 1937 recording of the Rebel Yell. This authenticated version is now available on this mod's toolbar, sorry Yanks, could not find it's equivalent - The Yankee Hurrah. For balance, I'll add it in the future if provided a decent recording or link.

Added another scenario, a Reb Round Top version, guaranteed to play differently from the stock rendition.

Also edited several previously released scenarios. 'Wilcox and Lang' is more winnable now, had to rescript Barksdale to sweep north, also, he kept getting killed, and his replacement was a wimp. Without Barksdale's flanking move, Wilcox and Lang were left with an impossible mission of breaking Humphrey's line. In addition, the Union Round Top scenario has lots of Rebel Yells comin' at 'em now...my first use of mp3 files scripted in, hope they add some battlefield ambiance for y’all.

    Ready for Download...To Arms

    Expanded Toolbar - Grog Waterloo

  • Your Welcome Old Soldier, glad the DL and install went smooth.

Just uploaded the program again, still called v03. No biggie if y'all don't want to DL and install again, but I had to change some fonts that were buggin' me, the 'morale and fatigue' texts. Went with the small default fonts, they display and center better.

Anyway, DL again if you want...sorry for the afterthought, but it does improve upon this display.

This toolbar is not just for my preferences, I wish it user friendly for everyone. Please feedback as to your preferences so I can make adjustments for universal appeal. This is necessary for when MP is opened for mods. I require a better toolbar, very similar to this one, and I need for you folks to concur, so we can meet on the field of battle with the same tools of war, evolved to our preferences.

I really like your work. Thanks for your efforts. Question...should I unactivate the 02 version on the MODS page when I activate the 03 version? I'm having duplications of the scenarios on the users section.

Anything not clear following the 'Read Me' file?

Do you see it in the Modifications screen when opening the game?

  • The 'Mods' folder is in the main SOWGB folder. Maybe it got mistakenly deleted. Simply make a folder and name it Mods. You do have the full game version, right?

  • Norb,

Is there any way you could add Reb Buglers Flags to the game code so we southern boys might have additional flags we can use to better find out officers in command? It would be nice just to be able to have the commander of a Brigade have the differant Flags and I don't think that one flag would make such a drain on FPS?

    Sincerely,
    JMayer aka. JJGordon

Same problem. Had successfully used v. 1. Since that download, in order to play multi-player was advised to change to SowGB102. I have the 25+ KB RAR file in my game modifications folder, but it does not show up in the game. Would that be because of 102?

    Thanks

  • Great Job, RebBugler !

I just picked out three of them to distinguish the different ranks, I’m really not that into authenticity .

Loaded the game, and Crash-to-freaking-Desktop !

I sit here staring at the monitor, and then remembered that I didn’t put the flags into the Flag folder, just left them on the desktop. It helps to place them into the game!

Thanks, AD. I should have known that!

Now, however, while the v.3 shows in Modifications and I have checked the yellow box for applications, I still have only the normal game flags, etc.

Must be another step I have overlooked.

    Davinci,

I thinking your 'added sprites' mod would be great to stack with this one. Do you see any file conflicts?

Hey, no conflict’s here, and also thanks for the simple process of adding them into the Sand-Box-Thing game. I just had to edit one file, and the OOB.

Little Powell – is working on the Uniform Mod so that should be available real soon.

Again, Great Job! – this really does add to a great game!

I had DRF in the first patch, but have no DRF with the current patch. Again, I must have done something wrong!

  • Rebbugler - did Alabama have a new flag made, I had to desaturate the standard flag, to distinguish it from the others.

  • Upgrade v04 now available. Continuing with toolbar additions, included now are Unit Status Reports and Terrain texts, basically making 'mouse over' info always available.

Also, artillery ammo amounts are immediately available now, without mouse over. Really more information and features necessary for my gameplay requirements, but once I started adding stuff, it just snowballed. I really just wanted a fast readout for canister levels. Still, designing this arty feature taught me a lot about functioning between the gui, guitext, and gfx files...so, definitely a worthwhile project. Besides, that space between toolbar islands wasn't being used, and was really just dead space. Hopefully the redundancy created will be ignored in favor of this rather pronounced addition.

Lots of other minor fixes and changes between these last two versions. Learned something new that was right under my nose...the gui can make separate CS and US toolbars...no more Yankee Rebel Yell.

Wanted to call this one 3.1, but the Mods folder won't read mod folder titles with periods, thus, we'll call this version v04...v31 would be kinda stupid sounding after v03.

I'm about out of toolbar ideas, and with no yea or nay feedback regarding specifics, I'm leaving this part of the mod for now. Thanks for all the positive overall feedback folks, it is greatly appreciated.

Got some great positive feedback regarding these included scenarios from General Dave (PrivateWilly) while we were testing. And he beat em'. They may be tough, but beatable, and guaranteed to keep the action happening. Try 'um out and feedback if you please...scenarios are my passion, those blue vs gray sagas are the essence of WHAT IF.

  • No flag changes at all, or bugle calls. Flag design changes are always on my mind, they can always be improved upon. Gotta figure out photoshop first, so, it may be a while. Right now, Paint.Net has fit most of my needs regarding graphics...but photoshop offers much, much more. I especially would like to work with collapsing the flags intermittently...think that's available with the 'Traditional Distort' tool with photoshop.

So we can keep out mods compatible, continued communication is essential.

    Thanks for asking Davinci

  • Can't wait to try your new toolbar RebBugler! Great stuff!

Everyone should give RebBugler's scenarios a try. The Wilcox & Lang and Barksdale scenarios are hard to beat. I finally beat them but it took me many tries.
